Charles FitzCharles was born in or about 1657. He was the illegitimate son of Charles II, by Catherine, daughter of Thomas Pegge of Yeldersley, Derbyshire. Charles II had the affair with Catherine (or Katherine) Pegge whilst he was abroad in exile. Charles the younger was allowed to use the Royal arms with a “baton sinister, Vaire.. and was bred to the sea”. He was educated abroad, probably in Spain and he was known by the nickname of “Don Carlos”.

The Stuarts; A blog dedicated to the Stuart Kings and Queens of Britain, and the world they lived in.
The House of Stuart (previously spelt Stewart) is a European royal house. Founded by Robert II of Scotland, the Stewarts first became monarchs of the Kingdom of Scotland during the late 14th century, and subsequently held the position of the Kings of Great Britain and Ireland.
After the Stewarts gained control of all of Great Britain, the arts and sciences continued to develop; many of William Shakespeare's best known plays were authored during the Jacobean era, while institutions such as the Royal Society and Royal Mail were established during the reign of Charles II.
